Year 6 – 6P

Look below to find out what we've been getting up to!

This week has been jam-packed! On Wednesday afternoon we had a surprise for the whole school- we got to watch Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime! It was very funny and the actors had modernised the show. In English, we watched a short movie clip called ‘Alma’- at first we only listened to the sounds though and had to imagine what was going on. In groups we discussed the cinematic features, for example, the way the camera was used to make the watcher feel trapped. Thursday was a special day because it was the feast of All Saints- we were joined by Father John to remember all those who have died and celebrated mass.

Week beginning 1/10/18

Welcome to our first regular write-up of what we’ve been getting up to in 6P! We aim to tell you all about the fun and exciting thing we have been doing.

In English, we have been writing a complaint letter to Mr Coombes about the harsh punishment that he gave Roald Dahl many years ago! In addition, I also got to grips with using the semi-colon which is used to separate items in an extended list. In maths, we have been ordering and simplifying fractions- today we did some mastery problems where we had to use a lot of brain power to solve! We have also been creating itineraries for our chosen city- so if you are planning a trip to Paris, come and ask us for information!

Around the World 3
This week we discovered how the world is divided. Children learnt key terminology, such as: longitude, latitude , the Equator and the Prime Meridian. They were then tasked with demonstrating what they knew with just some string and tape. A great afternoon of learning and fun!
How fantastic is this art-work! The children thoroughly enjoyed creating their Aboriginal paintings and took such care whilst doing so. We learnt that symbols were used in aboriginal art to show different things and that the Indigenous people communicated through beautiful patterns.
