Allergy Management

Allergy Safety & Benedict’s Law Statement:

At Cheadle Catholic Junior School, the health, safety, and well-being of every child in our care is our highest priority. In line with Benedict’s Law and national statutory guidance, we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and allergy-aware environment where all pupils can thrive, learn, and play safely.

We maintain a proactive, whole-school approach to managing food allergies and preventing severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis).

Key Responsibilities & Roles:

To ensure robust leadership and oversight across our school, the following staff and governors oversee our allergy procedures:

Named Allergy Coordinator: Mrs Fender
Oversees day-to-day allergy management, staff training, and the coordination of Individual Healthcare Plans (IHPs) for pupils.

Named Allergy Governor: Mrs Aspinall
Provides governance oversight to ensure the school fully complies with national allergy legislation and safety standards.

Our Benedict’s Law Commitments:

In accordance with Benedict’s Law standards, Cheadle Catholic Junior School will:

  • Publish an Allergy Policy: A clear, whole-school Allergy Policy that sets out risk management, catering protocols, educational activities, and emergency response procedures.
  • Ensure that staff are trained:: Regular, comprehensive allergy awareness and adrenaline auto-injector (AAI) training for all teaching staff, support staff, lunch supervisors, and office personnel.
  • Provide Emergency Medication: Provision of spare, in-date emergency adrenaline auto-injectors (AAIs) held securely on site for immediate access during an emergency.
  • Create Individual Healthcare Plans (IHPs): Personalised healthcare plans and risk assessments created in close partnership with parents, carers, and medical professionals for every child with a diagnosed allergy.
  • Be a Nut-Aware & Safe Environment: Protocols across classrooms, school lunches, snacks, celebrations, and educational visits to minimise allergen exposure risks for young children.

Parents & Carers: If your child has a diagnosed allergy or if their medical needs change at any point, please inform the main school office immediately so that an Individual Healthcare Plan can be created or updated.
