'Some children and young people require special educational provision because they have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of the educational facilities generally provided. These difficulties can be age related and may fluctuate over time. Many children and young people with vision impairment (VI), hearing impairment (HI) or a multisensory (MSI) will require specialist support and/ or equipment to access their learning, or habilitation support. Children and young people with an MSI have a combination of vision and hearing difficulties. Some children and young people with a physical disability (PD) require additional ongoing support and equipment to access all the opportunities available to their peers.'

As a school we understand that only when a child's physical and sensory needs are being meet are they able to access their learning.

Through advice from Stockport's Occupational Therapy team, we have a number of resources, activities and teaching strategies for children to use in the classroom to support their sensory or physical needs such as their fine and gross motor skills, Most of these can be used in the classroom as part of normal classroom support; however, if we feel that the child has difficulties carrying out practical and physical activities which affect their daily life, than a referral to the Occupational Therapy Service may be required. The service may assess the child and give school and parents recommendations and advice or produce a program specific to the child's needs. 

If a child has visual or hearing needs then the team from Sensory Support may be involved to advise and guide class teachers and may offer specific teaching depending on the child's level of need. 

If a child requires support additional to normal classroom teaching then they may be placed on an SEN support plan if needed.
