“The primary school sport funding is used well to broaden sporting opportunities for pupils, while developing the expertise of staff, using specialist coaches. This has, for example, led to increased opportunities in activities such as tag rugby, cross-country running and ballroom dancing. Records show that almost all pupils now engage in after-school sporting activities, ensuring a good understanding of how to lead a healthy lifestyle.”

Sport premium funding has been provided to primary schools. This funding is to be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of our pupils to encourage them to develop healthy, active lifestyles. Each school will receive £8000 plus £5 per pupil- here at Cheadle Catholic Junior School, this equates to £9790.
Swimming lessons are provided by Stockport LifeLiesure and are alternated across 3 terms for pupils in Years 3,4 and 5. In our 2018/19 year 6 cohort 99% can do each of the following:
swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
use a range of strokes effectively
perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
At Cheadle Catholic Junior School we offer a wide range of opportunities to enable all pupils to find activities that they wish to excel in, whilst meeting the requirements of the National Curriculum.
In Physical Education, pupils will develop their ability to perform, select and apply appropriate skills whilst developing their knowledge and understanding of sporting activities. Pupils work in small groups, reciprocally and as individuals, experiencing a wide range of roles within sporting situations such as leader, coach, and analyst. By ensuring all pupils work in a range of different situations we help all pupils to build confidence and creativity whilst helping to develop co-operation and communication skills.
Through observation the teacher will evaluate and assess the skills that the children acquire in Physical Education continually throughout the year, which is compared to the National Curriculum attainment levels. All pupils are encouraged to achieve their maximum potential in each activity and to appreciate the value of physical activity as part of a healthy active lifestyle. An ethos of fair play is encouraged throughout all lessons, whilst ensuring they foster a desire to improve self performance.
With the additional funding we are providing training for staff members to enhance their skills in the delivery of Physical Education. Alongside this we are also providing a specialist teacher, supporting and assisting staff to deliver high quality PE lessons. We have also taken the opportunity to ensure that all equipment is to the highest standard so that the children can have a fulfilling and enjoyable PE curriculum. In addition to this we are working with an existing sports network (SSP) to provide the children with a variety of different sporting opportunities and competitions against other schools.
To further encourage a healthy and active lifestyle we have used the additional funding to provide specialist coaches to teach athletics during our lunchtime, this opportunity was open to all children.
At Cheadle Catholic all children also have many opportunities to take part in extra-curricular activities.
Using the sports premium funding we have provided places for pupils in after school sports clubs to allow them to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. In our autumn term we provided the year six children with the chance to develop their leadership skills. The children took part in a course, led by a specialist PE teacher, whereby they became skilled in facilitating games with our year three children.
Throughout the year CCJS take part in many competitions inside and outside of school such as athletics, netball matches, football matches, dodgeball tournaments and swimming galas. This has helped us to strengthen our links with our feeder school as well as other local primary schools. The sports premium funding has allowed us to establish strong, sustainable partnerships with local community sports clubs and provide additional competitions outside of school.
